Empowering surgeons to focus on what they do best
The powerhouse sitting behind Grace Orthopaedic Centre is Orthopaedic Services Limited (OSL). OSL is the management and coordination team, consolidating contract management, shared systems, infrastructure, and centre management so the member surgeons can focus on their patients while OSL ensures everything else is taken care of.
Trusted Partner to ACC, Health NZ, and the Public System
OSL blends private-sector agility with public-sector accountability, partnering with ACC, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, and other funders to deliver clinical and surgical care at scale.
This ensures patients receive timely, high-quality orthopaedic care - while funders connect with a single, trusted partner focused on delivering high-quality outcomes, faster access to care, and unparalleled community impact.
Combining surgical excellence with operational scale
OSL’s purpose is to combine surgical excellence with operational scale to deliver unparalleled value and efficiencies to our surgeons, our patients, and our funders.

Our OSL Team
OSL & Grace Orthopaedic Centre
Grace Orthopaedic Centre was purpose-built by the OSL surgeons when Grace Hospital was being developed. While Grace Hospital now owns the building, OSL has leased the space ever since and continues to manage the facility.
We sublet the rooms to surgeons—most of whom also work under OSL’s surgical contracts with ACC and other funders—and take care of anything that impacts how the centre operates. While each surgeon runs their own practice and employs their own team, OSL provides shared systems, infrastructure, and leadership on anything that affects multiple practices.
It’s a setup that allows surgeons to stay focused on their patients while we take care of everything from facility policies to being the central point for things like privacy compliance.
How it Works
In most cases, a patient is referred to a surgeon through ACC or identified by the public hospital as a candidate for outsourced surgery. That initial consultation is billed through OSL under our Clinical Services contract.
If surgery is needed, the surgeon and their practice put together an Assessment and Treatment Plan (ARTP), which OSL submits to ACC for approval. Once it’s signed off, the practice coordinates the surgery at Grace Hospital.
From there, OSL handles the behind-the-scenes work—processing payments from the funder and distributing them to the hospital, anaesthetist, and surgeon.
