About Richard

After completing his medical and orthopaedic training in New Zealand, Richard headed abroad for further subspecialty training—first in joint replacement at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in the UK, then in arthroscopic and sports knee surgery in Melbourne. He returned to Tauranga in 1992, where he’s been practising ever since.

Over the years, Richard has held several leadership roles in the orthopaedic community. He’s a former Clinical Director of Orthopaedics at Tauranga Hospital, Past President of both the New Zealand Knee Society and the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association, and currently serves as Chairman of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Board of Surgical Training.

Outside the hospital, Richard enjoys life on the land—he and his wife run a sport horse stud just outside Tauranga, blending his surgical precision with a love of the outdoors.
