Putting a smile on the faces of my patients, particularly when they’ve had a good outcome from surgery and are no longer limited by pain.

About Neal

Neal studied medicine at the University of Auckland and completed postgraduate studies in surgical anatomy at Otago. After gaining his Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Neal travelled to Brisbane to further specialise in spinal surgery.

During his time in Australia, Neal worked as a consultant spinal surgeon at Princess Alexandra Hospital—Queensland’s largest spinal referral centre—where he managed everything from acute spinal trauma to complex degenerative conditions and spinal tumours.

Since returning home in 2020, Neal splits his time between Grace Hospital and the public hospitals in Tauranga and Whakatāne. He’s actively involved in teaching junior doctors and contributing to academic research.

Outside of work, Neal is based in Mount Maunganui and makes the most of the coastal lifestyle with his family. He enjoys spending time at the beach, going for runs, playing tennis and enjoys travelling.
