About David

David’s path into orthopaedics began with a background in mechanical engineering, before he went on to study medicine at the University of Otago. After completing his orthopaedic training in New Zealand, David pursued further specialist experience overseas — taking on fellowships in knee and spine surgery in both Edinburgh and Brisbane. While his main focus is spinal conditions, he also enjoys a broad orthopaedic practice including hip and knee replacements.

Outside the operating theatre, David is passionate about surgical education. He holds a Master’s in Surgical Education from the University of Melbourne and is actively involved in training future surgeons at Tauranga Hospital. He also combines his love for teaching with humanitarian work in the Pacific through the Orthopacifix Charitable Trust, delivering orthopaedic care and education to communities in need.

David is also involved in disaster response as an orthopaedic surgeon with the New Zealand Medical Assistance Team and the New Zealand Defence Force.

He’s based in the Bay of Plenty, where he lives with his wife and two young sons.
